German Professor’s Visit Strengthens Scientific Ties Between Pakistan and Germany

Prof. Dr. Xin Jiang’s recent visit to Pakistan aimed at fostering long-term scientific collaboration between Pakistani and German researchers, particularly in materials technology. During his weeklong stay, he engaged with research groups, policymakers, and students, exchanging ideas and exploring opportunities for future cooperation. Expressing admiration for the research being conducted in Pakistan, he voiced optimism about forging sustainable partnerships.
A distinguished expert in materials science and nanotechnology, Prof. Jiang was invited as a plenary speaker at the 3rd Scientific Colloquium Spring 2025, organized by the Department of Chemistry, Government Graduate College Jhelum, in collaboration with the Punjab Higher Education Commission, COMSTECH, University of Chakwal, and the Chemical Society of Pakistan.
Originally from Shenyang, China, Prof. Jiang pursued his doctoral studies in Germany and has held prestigious positions at leading institutions such as Peter Grünberg Institute (PGI), Fraunhofer IST, Braunschweig, and Technical University of Braunschweig. Since 2003, he has led the Chair of Surface and Materials Technology at the University of Siegen, Germany. With over 400 research publications, books, and book chapters, he is a pioneer in thin functional films, nanomaterials, and materials characterization. His research focuses on diamond-based composites, particularly in electronics, engineering, and chemical industries.
Prof. Jiang and his team have made significant strides in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology, advancing the synthesis of nanocrystalline diamond and diamond composite films. These innovations have widespread applications in cutting tools, sensors, bio-interfaces, and energy storage solutions. Looking ahead, he aims to refine these materials further, pushing the boundaries of diamond composites in high-tech industries.
Accompanying him on this visit was Dr. Hameed Ullah Wazir, Professor at Hazara University and research group leader at Siegen University, Germany. His efforts were instrumental in strengthening ties between Pakistani and German researchers, facilitating productive discussions and collaboration.
During his stay, Prof. Jiang held multiple meetings with Pakistani university officials, including Prof. Dr. Mohsan Nawaz, Vice Chancellor of Hazara University, Mansehra, to discuss potential partnerships. Both sides agreed to work toward establishing sustainable and impactful scientific collaborations.
Beyond academia, Prof. Jiang expressed deep appreciation for Pakistani culture and hospitality, showing a keen interest in the country’s rich traditions. He conveyed his desire to visit regularly—not only to strengthen scientific cooperation but also to experience Pakistan’s cultural heritage firsthand.
