Pakistan Seeks UN Cooperation to Curb Cross-Border Terrorism from Afghanistan

Pakistan has urged the United Nations to assist in curbing cross-border terrorism originating from Afghanistan. Deputy PM Ishaq Dar met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, stressing the need for global cooperation to eliminate terrorism and ensure regional stability.

Pakistan has once more shared grave worries over cross-border terrorism originating from Afghanistan and has urged the United Nations (UN) for help in handling the matter.

Currently in New York attending a high-level UN Security Council (UNSC) conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to address important regional and worldwide issues.

Secretary-General Guterres commended Pakistan’s strong participation in world diplomacy and its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations during the meeting. Ishaq Dar responded by underlining the importance of a fair resolution of the Kashmir conflict in line with UNSC decisions, therefore reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to UN values. Reiterating Pakistan’s uncompromising support for a two-state solution, he also fiercely denounced Israeli aggression in Palestine.

Regarding cross-border terrorism, Dar underlined the need of UN collaboration to eradicate terrorism in the area and voiced serious worries about militant actions starting from Afghanistan. He underlined that Pakistan follows UN Charter values and is still dedicated to multilateral diplomacy. As a non-permanent member of the UNSC, he also underlined Pakistan’s will to contribute to world peace and security.

Following Dar’s recent speech before the UN Security Council, where he underlined Pakistan’s continuous fight against terrorism from groups like the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which keeps operations out of Afghan territory, this conference follows. For regional security, he underlined, a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is absolutely essential.

He underlined even more that terrorism is still a worldwide problem and that Pakistan is acting in all required capacity to neutralize the rising dangers caused by radical groups.

Pakistan’s need for worldwide cooperation highlights its larger approach to guarantee regional security and supports UN diplomatic activities.
