China reaffirms its stance on Palestinian self-governance, rejecting forced displacement and foreign control over Gaza. China warns that external control undermines Palestinian self-determination, urging diplomatic efforts for lasting peace in the Middle East.
Story Highlights
  • China's Stance on Gaza – China insists on Palestinian self-governance, opposing any foreign control or forced displacement in Gaza.
  • Trump’s Controversial Proposal – Trump suggested the U.S. should "take over" Gaza, sparking global criticism and concerns over Palestinian self-determination.
  • Support for a Two-State Solution – China and the international community advocate for a political resolution based on the two-state solution for lasting peace.

China has reiterated its firm stance that “the Palestinians governing Palestine” must serve as the guiding principle for post-conflict governance in Gaza. The country opposes any forced displacement of Gaza’s population and urges all parties to leverage the ceasefire as an opportunity to revive a political resolution grounded in the two-state solution, aiming to achieve lasting Middle Eastern peace.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian outlined this position in response to a question about U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal that the United States should “take over” and “own” Gaza after relocating Palestinians to neighboring countries.

Trump’s remarks have ignited global debate, with some framing them as a contentious attempt to resolve a protracted crisis, while others interpret them as emblematic of his expansionist rhetoric, heightening concerns about U.S. intentions. The suggestion followed a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, fueling speculation about potential undisclosed agreements between the two leaders.

China, which has long emphasized development as a cornerstone of stability, warned that foreign control over Gaza would erode Palestinian self-determination and exacerbate an already fragile situation. The international community, including China, has consistently endorsed the two-state solution as the legitimate pathway to peace, stressing that any viable resolution must align with this framework.

Trump’s proposal also clashes with international law and United Nations resolutions affirming Palestinians’ right to return to their homeland. Skepticism deepened after the White House clarified that the U.S. has no plans to fund Gaza’s reconstruction or deploy troops, rendering Trump’s idea more rhetorical than a concrete strategy.

As Washington pivots its strategic focus toward Asia, Trump’s comments raise broader questions about the U.S. role in the Middle East. While his remarks underscore the urgency of addressing Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, critics argue that a durable solution must be inclusive, adhere to international law, safeguard Palestinian rights, and address Israel’s security concerns.

China, a longstanding advocate for regional stability, asserts that a just and lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved through diplomacy, ensuring peace and security for all parties involved.
