China’s Quantum Leap

Origin Wukong, China’s third-generation superconducting quantum computer, has marked a major milestone, surpassing 20 million remote visits globally, according to China Science and Technology Daily. This achievement underscores China’s advancements in quantum computing and its growing influence in the global tech landscape.
Developed independently, Origin Wukong has drawn users from 139 countries, with the United States, Russia, Japan, and Canada showing the highest engagement levels. Notably, the U.S. leads among foreign users, highlighting global interest in China’s quantum breakthroughs.
Since its operational launch on January 6, 2024, the quantum computer has completed over 339,000 computing tasks, benefiting key industries such as finance and biomedicine.
At the heart of Origin Wukong is Wukong, a 72-qubit superconducting quantum chip, making it one of China’s most advanced and programmable quantum computers. The system is named after Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King, known for his 72 transformations, symbolizing the quantum computer’s versatility and power.
China’s progress in quantum computing signals a shift in global technological competition, with increasing efforts to integrate quantum technology into practical applications. With its rapid growth, Origin Wukong is expected to further shape the future of quantum research and innovation worldwide.
