A convoy carrying essential supplies to Parachinar, including food and medicine, was temporarily halted today after a firing incident in Kurram District. The incident occurred in the Bagan area when government officials and security forces, who were clearing the route ahead of the convoy, came under fire from unidentified assailants.

The firing left Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kurram Javed Ullah Mehsud, the Assistant Commissioner, and several security personnel injured.

Details of the Injured:
• DC Kurram Javed Ullah Mehsud: Sustained injuries to the shoulder and leg; condition stable
• Police Official Misal Khan (son of Allah Yar Khan): Injured
• FC Official Rafi Ullah (son of Noor Kalam Khan): Injured
• Civilian Rizwan (son of Sharif Khan): Injured

The Deputy Commissioner was initially shifted to Alizai Hospital, where he received medical attention. His condition is stable, and arrangements are being made to transfer him to Peshawar via helicopter for further treatment.

Incident Overview:

According to Kurram Police, the Deputy Commissioner and other senior administrative officials were traveling ahead of the convoy to assess the security situation along the route from Tall Chappri to Bagan. As their convoy entered Bagan’s jurisdiction, unidentified attackers opened fire, leading to injuries. The supply convoy, however, was not targeted and remains secure.

Security Response:

Police and FC personnel retaliated, engaging the attackers in a firefight. Local sources in Bagan reported that the firing lasted for about 30 minutes. The attackers are believed to be present in the Bagan market area. Security forces have since increased their presence in the region to prevent further incidents.

Official Statement:

Barrister Saif confirmed that the DC’s condition is stable. He also stated that the supply convoy has been temporarily halted due to security concerns.

Current Situation:

The supply convoy from Tall has been temporarily held back as a precautionary measure. Security forces are actively working to secure the route and ensure safe passage for the supplies.

This incident underscores the challenges of maintaining security in the region and highlights the risks faced by officials and security forces to bring peace in the region.
